Cinnamon Roll French Toast Sticks

Why did I have to see cinnamon rolls as I was about to make french toast sticks?

I planned on using plain focaccia bread to make french toast, but the cinnamon rolls spoke to me.  They whispered something about needing to get a life and gestured toward the focaccia. Maybe later, my thoughts swirled.

Now, it’s time to get my buns ready for . . .

French Toast Sticks

Whisk together in a small bowl:

1 egg

1/4 cup hemp milk

1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

pinch cinnamon and nutmeg

Slice 4 gluten free cinnamon rolls into fourths.  Dip each section in egg mixture, turning to coat thoroughly.  Place pieces on a greased cookie sheet.  Bake for 25 minutes in a 325 degree oven, turning pieces over half way for even cooking.

Maple syrup for dipping is probably unnecessary.  Go for it.

  1. This looks DELICIOUS! It made me want to pull out Peter Reinhart’s Bread Baker’s Apprentice to make his cinnamon rolls again — but this time turn them into French Toast! You’re amazing…thanks for sharing.

  6. Cinnamon rolls have such a knack for communicating with people, it’s almost creepy. In a waistline-expanding way. And when is maple syrup ever unnecessary? ;)
