Thank you for opening your hearts and wallets by donating to the gluten free food drive on Saturday! The disaster in Joplin made it clear that gluten free, along with food for other medically necessary diets, should be included in emergency supplies.
This just in – Johnna from Johnna’s 52 Sweets collected food in Kansas City and delivered it to Rita, the celiac support group leader in Joplin. They’ve organized a specific area at Forest Park Pantry to accommodate people needing gluten free items. And –
They’ve started a blog to keep everyone informed and up-to-date on the situation in Joplin. Please tell your gluten free friends to visit Gluten Free Joplin. Thank you Johnna and Rita for taking care of your fellow gluten free eaters!
Unless I hear that Rita needs something now, the food will be donated to the St. Louis Area Foodbank. That okay with everyone? When more gluten free stuff is needed in Joplin, they can transport supplies to Ozarks Food Harvest (Joplin is in Ozark Food Harvest’s service area). And if there isn’t an immediate need, the food will stay in St. Louis.
Hunger doesn’t take a holiday. And neither does eating gluten free if you have celiac disease. It’s a lifelong, 24/7 necessity for at least 1% of the population.
Thanks again to everyone who supported this food drive!
